Update...

Struggling a bit and I have to hit the reset button!

All is really well. I haven't gone into any more debt, my $1,000 eFund is still in tact and I lost 17 lbs since April 1st. Not bad. However, my spending has been a bit out of control this month and my eating has been just awful this week. I have to reel myself back in before I start looking at the credit card again and hiding from the scale.

Some of the things I have found difficult are rebounding emotionally from the $1,500 in car repairs and balancing the grocery/food budget while trying to eat better, cook healthier recipes and train for the Chicago Half Marathon. I needed running hear, I registered for races, groceries are expensive, recipes are expensive to make, and quite frankly I am getting really tired of tracking every single dollar and every single WW point but I still do it religiously.

What do I want? To continue losing weight, to be emotionally okay with gradual progress with my finances and weight loss, to keep a smile on my face and to feel good more than I feel bad. That's what I want. I want to be able to have the time, money and ability to focus on what matters most to me and continue to achieve higher levels of happiness.

I still enjoy my job even though it's non legal. I really love the people that I work with and the organization so I am in no rush to leave any time soon. I have been picking up more complex assignments/files and getting opportunities to work on special projects and that will bode well with my annual review and hopefully reflect positively with next year's bonus and raise.

I am down from 180-163 lbs and I am up to running 6 miles. My goal is 140 lbs and to complete the Chicago 13 Mile Half Marathon in September. My debt has declined, my net worth continues to improve and I update my net worth iq chart and the charts in the right column every month.

So...all is well and I am sorry about the lack of posting. It just hasn't been in my heart to analyze every day and week but I am tracking everything and keeping afloat. How have you been readers?

Congrats on the weight loss and sticking with an exercise regimen, that’s a tremendous achievement. Human beings are complex and nuanced creatures; we cannot just easily compartmentalize our lives. Success and discipline in one area will often have a positive impact in another area. Even in the net result is just improved mood and well being - that alone is priceless.
As for the money, maybe some probing soul-searching is in order. Do you truly believe you can be debt free? Or have you resigned yourself to thinking you will be in debt forever? After working incredibly hard to get through law school do you feel entitled to treat yourself? Do your family and friends have the perception that the lawyer can always treat or contribute the most? What do you want your life to look like in 5-7 years? Do you still want to be blogging about the $200/weekly challenge? In your social circle, are you friends frugal? On your job, are people excessively status conscious?
We are making substantial progress but my household is not gazelle intense by any means. I find ways to energize myself because financial independence is a long and winding road. It can feel like unbearable tedium at times. So, I empathize with you.
Maybe you can do a blog post about what people do to energize themselves along their journeys to a debt free existence.
You’re in a unique position, where the buck stops with you. You are not married. You don’t have children. Those things are fulfilling beyond measure but you definitely want to optimize this time where all your money is your own.
Best wishes on your journey…..

Welcome back!!! I have been missing your blog :(

Good job staying afloat. I totally agree with you about tracking everything. It has been almost 4 years and I have fallen off the Dave Ramsey wagon many times. At times I just want to get rid of the budgets and blog. I want to live the life I want without restrictions. If we through it out the window now, we will always live with these restricitons. If we stick with the program it becomes a lifestyle and oneday there will be NO restriction and lots of reward.

Half-Marathon...what a personal challenge to take on. The experience is challengeing and wonderful all at the same time. I to am a runner and every sore muscle is worth completing an event. If this is your first you will see that training for a marathon is so similar to the journey to build a solid financial foundation.

Wishing you tons of success in everything you have going on right now. Go the distance with persistence!

So glad to see you back! I've been checking for new posts and was excited when I just happened to click your blog today and saw one.

Congrats on all of your acheivements. You should be proud. Keep up the good work. I just started running again a few weeks ago after a very long hiatus. Lost my mojo for about uuuuhhhh 1.5 years. LOL. So, I'm getting back in there slowly with a jog/walk routine.

Anyway, that's what's new. Still plugging away at student loans but have lots of distractions this summer, including 3-4 vacations. Sometimes I catch the guilt bug and think I shouldn't be vacationing but i'ts not something I do very often so I'm giving myself a pass for the summer. What, am I supposed to not go anywhere or do anything for the next 4 years it takes me to pay those sucker off? I think not. I'll rev up on saving for SL payments when I get back from SPAIN!!!! Totally excited.

Anyway, good luck with the Chicago half and I look forward to reading more. :)

Hi there,

Where are you? There have not been an update for last 4 months. Is everything OK on your road to financial independence?

I'm planning to travel with my family to Chicago for Thanksgiving, does anyone know the best way to get cheap tickets at such a busy time of year for a family of fourteen? Is there any room for negotiation with the airlines because my group is so large?
