March 2008 Goals…

  • Pay off Revolving Credit Card Balance with Tax Return: $2,800


  • Pay Parents Back with Tax Return: $600


  • Land a New Job and Higher Salary: Min $90k

Excellent goals! And won't it feel great to have paid back your parents?! I'm working on that one right now, but they will only take one payment a year from me. I guess I will have to make sure they are big payments then! ;) Good work!

Instead of paying my parents back, I think I am going to do some legal work for them like setting up their will and trusts. That way, they don't have to pay someone else $4,000 to do it.

I just happened to come across your blog from one of the other pf blogs. We have so much in common - I have over $150,000 in loans from law school, I'm single, trying to get my $$ in order. I am a criminal defense lawyer (public defender so my salary sucks) but I was unemployed at one point and I remember how incredibly tough it was to find a job -- even with 6 years of legal experience. So keep at it -- eventually it'll happen.
You might want to think about trying to get work in Bankruptcy Court, maybe as a law clerk. I know it's not what you want, the pay isn't great but probably just a little more than you're making now, but usually only is for a term of a year and it would get you some experience in the legal field...
