Charitable Giving…

As many of you know, I am in a lot of debt…over $200k in fact. Every once in a while, I get something in the mail from organizations such as St. Judes, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. I send them $10, $20 or whatever I can spare.

Recently I was introduced to World Vision and now I contribute $35 per month to help a child in need. I call him Mr. Wilson and he is a beautiful little boy in Africa. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

Please check out the website and decide for yourself if you would like to bring joy to a child in need.

I have a little girl through World Vision. :) We don't have hundreds of dollars to give away at a time, but a little a month makes me feel like I'm making a difference. :)

I haven't been as giving as I would like recently. I did donate $100 last month to a charity. I'm also going to try to donate another $100.

Mrs. Micah, I feel the same way. I don't have a lot but the $35 per month makes me feel a little better about making a difference in another person's life (even if it's small).

not to sound super negative about donating to charity, but for those of us who have significant debt (i'm definitely one of those people), it seems to me like $35 isn't really just $35 a month. i mean, it's $35 + all of the interest i'm paying because i didn't put that $35 towards my debt. that being said, sometimes it's worth it because there are a lot of fantastic causes out there - i'm a huge fan of donorschoose.org. i support projects that are around things i'm passionate about - knitting, yoga, etc.

Anonymous...I am a big believer in you have to give to receive.

I am going to get out of debt, please believe that...I do. Helping other is a way to help me stay postive to tackle all of my challenges, not just debt. Nothing makes me feel better than giving and making a difference in someone's life.
