Make Movies Affordable…
I had a great time going to the movies this weekend but spent a small fortune on snacks. The lesson? Bring snacks to the movie with you. Stop at the local grocery or convenient store on the way to the theatre and stock up on your favorite snacks. You can bet (and spend) your bottom dollar that the theatre has marked up the prices on the goodies at least double. Then you have all the pleasure of the treats and the entertainment but less financial guilt. The truth is that you can’t control the price of the movie tickets even at an early show, that’s a fixed cost. You can control the variable goodie cost and bring in your own snacks at a fraction of the cost. It's makes the experience that much more enjoyable. =)

I agree, the ticket prices are already high, but after you add the snacks, going to the movies is a budget buster. You'd be amazed at what I can carry in a large purse. LOL
My guy and I learned never to go to the movie hungry! By the time we got popcorn, nachos and drinks we could have seen three movies. Or 10 movies if we stayed home and rented with all the food in the fridge we could eat!
That is a good point Debt Hater. This also applies to grocery shopping. Never go when you're hungry. =)
If memory serves me right, ticket sales are actually loss leaders. Theatres make all their profits from concessions.
I read an article somewhere that they mark up the popcorn 100 times what it costs to make it.
